Affogato:
A Refreshing Coffee-Based Dessert
A #BettrFromHome series featuring different ways you can easily use coffee at home
By Dominic Tan
If time is short, caffeine inclination high, and hunger even greater, then it sounds like time for coffee desserts! For minimum effort and maximum indulgence, try this family-friendly coffee treat: Affogato
Italian for “drowned”, Affogato is one-part fancy and 10 parts easy. Okay, we might be exaggerating, but with 2 main ingredients – coffee and ice cream – it’s definitely an easy dessert to whip.
RECIPE
Affogato
Ready in 5 minutes
1 Serving
Ingredients
2 scoops of vanilla ice cream
1 shot of espresso
Preparation
- Place 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream into a bowl
- Pour a shot of espresso onto it
- Top it off with a sprinkle of shaved chocolate flakes
Tips
As with anything homemade, everything can be varied. Instead of vanilla ice cream, consider other flavours like coffee, chocolate, or cookies n cream. If espresso is not available, 3-4 tablespoons of strong brewed or instant coffee works as well. You can even do without toppings, though chopped hazelnuts, caramel/chocolate sauce and even rum will please the tum’.
