Pak Echwan, our partner farmer, was originally a salesman. After saving up sufficient funds, he was offered a plot of land with coffee trees in 2012 in Bondowoso regency, near the magnificent mountains of Raung and Ijen. The rest, as they say, is history. His magnificent beans come to us through Belift Green Beans, a group of next-generation Indonesian coffee professionals committed to developing the quality and sustainability of their coffee – and one of our key long-term partners.
With a big vision for his village and its coffee farmer community, Pak Echwan is already one of the of the head farmers in this coffee-growing region. Taking the initiative to inculcate a mindset of ever-improving quality, he sees education, awareness and the sharing of best practices as key to raising the quality of their yields, together with vital investment in the areas of processing, equipment, and storage. Leading by example, he ensures that ample reinvestment into better equipment and processes are followed through after each harvest cycle. This has meant his produce enjoys a consistently high quality, year after year.
