Introducing an interesting variety of coffee from Tanetze de Zaragoza, Oaxaca. The Zapotec community who grows this coffee focus on sustainable practices with the aim for a future where both biodiversity and people can thrive. The Garnica Marsellesa and Typica varieties grown there makes up Grupo Tanetze — a low acidity, medium bodied coffee with notes of apricot and chocolate

We recommend grinding the beans before brewing as freshly ground coffee tends to have a better flavour and aroma. However, you can still opt to have your beans ground by us.

This coffee is roasted-to-order on Monday and Tuesday (excluding public holidays). If your order is submitted before 12pm on Friday, your order will be placed in the roasting schedule of the following week and dispatched in the same week. However, we do roast a small batch of single origin coffee for our subscription orders weekly. If this coffee is available, your order may be fulfilled within 2-5 working days. You'll receive an automated email with a tracking number when your order has been picked up by our delivery partner.

Azahar Coffee | Grupo Sector Tanetze

In the mist-covered mountains of Tanetze de Zaragoza, Oaxaca, the Zapotec community thrives through collective effort and a deep connection to the land. Under the Sembrando Vida program, 220 coffee producers across 22 villages work together to improve their lives and their environment. This year, they proudly sold 3,500 kilograms of coffee, the result of their dedication and love for the earth. Growing varieties like Garnica, Marsellesa, and Typica, they focus on sustainable practices, aiming for a future where both biodiversity and people flourish. Tanetze is more than a place—it’s a story of unity, hope, and the promise of a better tomorrow.

IMPACT

Azahar works to ensure a coffee farm can generate a stable income. A cornerstone of our business is providing stable prices to farmers that align with improving income levels as defined by a Sustainable Coffee Buyer’s Guide.

We pay these prices in exchange for high-quality coffee to empower reinvestment in farms and families. Typical green coffee supply networks are overly tied to the volatile commodity market without systems in place to protect producer incomes.

Azahar works to ensure a coffee farm can generate a stable income. We collaborate with producer partners to develop quality parameters that unlock potential and
facilitate market access.

While we aspire to ensure producers we work with can
realize tangible, positive financial outcomes as they commercialize their coffee, we acknowledge that for too many who produce it, its future is threatened. Not just by environmental factors, like changing temperatures and rainfall patterns, but also by systemic poverty endemic among coffee producers from deference to the commodities market.
